Man Overboard (MOB) and Piracy Detection are major considerations when related to sea going vessels. Although Piracy Detection only applies to certain areas, it is a growing problem that seems to be spreading to areas not previously considered to be at risk. Although Thermal Imaging Cameras will not prevent such an attack, they do provide an early alert permitting the crew to be at action stations on their arrival.
MOB particularly on a dark cloudy night is an ongoing risk for all vessels and a Thermal Imaging Camera should be considered as an essential item as part of their Safety at Sea equipment. Survival times in very cold sea water are very limited with early detection and recovery vital. |
